Futamura, a manufacturer of renewable and compostable films for the flexible packaging industry, is celebrating a 25 percent growth in sales of its renewable and compostable NatureFlex films.

NatureFlex films are engineered to provide high barrier to moisture, aroma and gasses, with ‘excellent’ transparency and high gloss. They are suitable for a number of flexible packaging applications, including as a barrier layer for biolaminates.

NatureFlex cellulose films are made from responsibly resourced wood pulp and are the next generation of Cellophane film, also made from wood pulp. The renewable content of NatureFlex films is claimed to be around 95 percent. The films are independently certified to both EU (EN13432) and US (ASTM D6400) industrial composting standards and have reached the standard required for home composting by Vin?otte.

NatureFlex films also biodegrade in waste water and have been tested for marine biodegradation according to the ASTM D6691-09 standard. Futamura stated that it continues to test NatureFlex to ensure compliance with future marine degradation regulations.

Andy Sweetman, Futamura sales and marketing manager, EMEA, explained: 'The growth in NatureFlex sales can be attributed to the growing trend by retailers and brand owners to be more environmentally responsible in the sourcing and disposal of their packaging materials.
