CCA: cotton production in Xinjiang may continue to rise

According to China Cotton Association's investigation over 2264 growers and 12 major cotton belts in August 2021, cotton planting areas are assessed at 43.4559 million mu nationwide, a fall of 5.47% year on year, and cotton production is forecast at 5.834 million tons, down 1.52% year on year, up 1.19 percentage point from the July report, mainly attributed to the continual recovery of cotton development in Xinjiang.

In Xinjiang, the weather condition was favorable for the cotton growing in August, and production is forecast at 5.3279 million tons, an increase of 1.6% year on year, and up 95,800 tons from July report. In Yellow River Basin, cotton production is assessed at 262,300 tons, down 33.73% year on year, up 1,000 tons from July report. In Yangtze River Basin, cotton crops were affected by the rainfall, and production is projected at 220,000 tons, down 11.43% year on year, and down 11,700 tons from July report.
