CCA: 8.45% of cotton crops harvested by end Sep, 2021

According to China Cotton Association's investigation over 2263 growers and 12 major cotton belts in September 2021, cotton production is assessed at 5.834 million tons nationwide in 2021/22 season. In Xinjiang, the harvests were delayed affected by the cold air and rainfall, and the picking progress was slower than last year. In Yangtze River, the picking progress was faster under favorable weather, and in Yellow River, the progress was slower than last year affected by the rainfall.

By September 30, 8.45% of cotton crops were picked, down 2.16 percentage point year on year, and sales progress was 5.13%, up 1.87 percentage point year on year. The sales prices were averaged at 9.76yuan/kg, up 53.25% year on year. According to the survey, cotton production is assessed at 5.834 million tons in 2021/22 season, a fall of 1.52% year on year, including 5.3279 million tons of Xinjiang cotton, up 1.60% year on year.

In Sep, the picking was delayed in Xinjiang affected by lower temperature. Cotton prices went upward, and sales prices of seed cotton also moved up. By September 30, 4.28% of cotton crops were harvested in Xinjiang, 0.45 percentage point slower than last year, and sales progress was 4.27%, 1.6 percentage point faster than last year. Seed cotton was mainly machine-picked, and was in North Xinjiang mostly. Sales prices were averaged at 10.36yuan/kg in Xinjiang, up 61.62% year on year. Hand-picked seed cotton with ginning yield of 40% in Kashgar, Aksu and Hoto of South Xinjiang was sold at 10.5-11yuan/kg, up 0.5yuan/kg from the beginning sales period, and machine-picked seed cotton in Changji, Tacheng and Shihezi of North Xinjiang was sold at 9-10yuan/kg, up 0.5yuan/kg from the beginning sales period.
