PP Imports & Exports diversified in May

According to the China Customs, China imported 340,911 metric tons of polypropylene (PP) in May 2022, down 0.28% compared to the same period of last year, but up 3.41% from a month earlier. Of all imports, homo PP imports accounted 221.3kt, down 3.85% compared to the same period of last year; co PP 107.9kt, up 9.69% year-on-year; Ra co PP for 11.8kt, down 12.13% year-on-year.

From the perspective of trading partners, the top countries and regions have not changed significantly. For example, the top six importers of homo PP are still South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, and Taiwan, China, of which South Korea still ranks first, while the rankings of the rest countries and regions have slightly adjusted.

The total export volume of PP in May 2022 was about 211.8kt, a year-on-year increase of 16.16%; among which the export of homo PP was about 194kt, a year-on-year increase of 13.74%, but down 12.52% from a month earlier.

In terms of polypropylene export trading partners in May 2022, Pakistan has become China's trading partner with the largest export volume this month, with an export volume of 18.4kt, accounting for 9% of the total. India dropped to second place this month with exports of 17kt.

In terms of China's export regions in May 2022, the main export provinces are concentrated in the eastern coastal areas, and the export by sea are still the main transportation route for China's polypropylene exports. In May 2022, the top three provinces in China's main export proportions changed, namely Zhejiang Province, Fujian Province and Liaoning Province, of which Zhejiang Province exported about 55.6kt, Fujian Province exported about 31.1kt, and Liaoning Province exports about 22.8kt.
