Indonesia makes safeguard measures sunset review final adjudication on imported yarns

On 12 August 2022, the Committee on WTO safeguards issued a notification of safeguards submitted to it by the delegation of Indonesia on 11 August 2022. The Indonesian Safeguards Committee made the first sunset review final decision on imports of yarn (other than sewing thread) of synthetic and artificial staple fibers and recommended that a three-year safeguard tax on imported yarns continue to be imposed from November 9, 2022 (see the following table for details). The Indonesian tax codes of the products involved are 5509.22.00, 5509.32.00, 5509.51.00, 5509.53.00, 5510.12.00 and 5510.90.00.
 

Consultation on the case is expected to take place before September 2, 2022, and stakeholders should submit applications for consultation in paper version and electronic version respectively within 7 days of the announcement.

On September 18, 2019, Indonesia launched a safeguard survey on imports of yarn (other than sewing thread) of synthetic and artificial staple fibers. On November 9, 2019,  Indonesia implemented a 200-day temporary safeguard measure on imports of products involved in the case. On May 27, 2020, Indonesia formally implemented safeguard measures for the products involved, valid until November 8, 2022. On April 25, 2022, upon the application of Indonesian domestic manufacturers, the Indonesian safeguards Committee launched the first sunset review investigation on imported products involved in the case.
