China NGOA inspected the implementation of the list of non-degradable disposable plastic products

On January 16, the National Government Offices Administration issued the“Circular on the work arrangements for Energy and Resource Conservation and Ecological Environment Protection of Public institutions in 2023”, requiring public institutions to further strengthen the control of plastic pollution, participate in the national special action of ministries and commissions on the treatment of plastic pollution, and supervised and inspected the implementation of the list of“Public institutions to stop the use of non-degradable disposable plastic products".

Non-degradable disposable plastic products required to be discontinued in the list include:

1) non-degradable disposable plastic lunch boxes: non-degradable disposable plastic boxes, dishes, dishes, etc.

2) non-degradable disposable plastic tableware: non-degradable disposable plastic knives, forks and spoons (excluding disposable plastic tableware for prepackaged food).

3) non-degradable disposable plastic straws (excluding plastic straws on the outer packaging of food such as milk and beverages).

4) disposable plastic water cup and beverage cup.

5) ultra-thin plastic shopping bags with a thickness of less than 0.025 mm.

6) Daily chemical products containing plastic beads.

The list specifically states that non-biodegradable materials include polyethylene PE, polypropylene PP, polystyrene PS, polyvinyl chloride PVC, ethylene-vinyl acetate EVA, polyethylene terephthalate PET and other non-biodegradable polymer materials.
