Japan's textile and apparel imports growth declines in H1, 2023
In the first half of the year, Japan imported a total of 1.199 million tons of textile and apparel, with a cumulative year-on-year decrease of 5.7%, but up 2.2% on the previous half year. Among them, imports from China amounted to 624kt, with a cumulative year-on-year decrease of 7.1%.
In June, Japan imported 191kt of textile and apparel, experiencing a year-on-year decrease of 8.9%. Imports from China amounted to 98kt, decreasing by 13.3%.
From the perspective of import countries, Japan's major textile and apparel imports come from China and Southeast Asian countries. The top five countries are China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, and South Korea.
Among the major sources of Japan's textile imports in the first half of the year, textile imports from Myanmar grew rapidly, with a growth rate of 24.8%. Imports from Vietnam increased by 3.7%, while those from other countries showed a decline.
