China's coal, crude oil and natural gas production and imports in Jan-Feb 2024

The production of raw coal declined while imports increased rapidly. In January-February 2024, the output of raw coal from industrial enterprises above designated size was 710 million tons, down 4.2 percent from the same period last year, compared with an increase of 1.9 percent in December last year. The average daily output was 11.75 million tons. Imported coal was 74.52 million tons in Jan-Feb, an increase of 22.9 percent over the same period last year, maintaining a relatively rapid growth, data from National Statistics Bureau showed.

Crude oil production increased steadily and import growth accelerated. In January-February, the output of crude oil from industrial enterprises above designated size was 35.11 million tons, an increase of 2.9 percent over the same period last year, which was 1.7 percentage points lower than that in December last year. The average daily output was 585000 tons. Imported crude oil was 88.31 million tons, an increase of 5.1 percent over the same period last year, and the growth rate was 4.5 percentage points faster than that in December last year.

The growth rate of crude oil processing has accelerated. In January-February, the processing volume of crude oil was 118.76 million tons, an increase of 3.0 percent over the same period last year, and the growth rate was 1.9 percentage points faster than that in December last year. The average daily processing was 1.979 million tons.

The growth rate of natural gas production accelerated, and imports maintained a relatively rapid growth. In January-February, the output of natural gas from industrial enterprises above designated size was 41.7 billion cubic meters, an increase of 5.9 percent over the same period last year, and the growth rate was 3.0 percentage points faster than that in December last year, with an average daily output of 690 million cubic meters. Imports of natural gas were 22.1 million tons, an increase of 23.6 percent over the same period last year, and the growth rate was 0.1 percentage points lower than that in December last year.
