US apparel import continues to slump in Jan

In Jan 2024, US apparel imports continued to decrease significantly, with a year-on-year reduction of 7.6% in import volume and a 16.5% decrease in import value. During the same period in 2023, US apparel imports saw a year-on-year reduction of 17.5% in volume and 3.8% in value. Compared to the same period in 2019, the imports to the US in Janof this year decreased by 17% in volume and 4% in value.

In Jan 2024, the average unit price of US apparel imports decreased by 9.7% on yearly basis, a significant contrast to the 16.6% increase observed in the same period of the previous year. When compared to Jan 2019, the average unit price in Jan 2024 increased by 4%.

In Jan 2024, US apparel imports from China saw a significant year-on-year rebound in volume, increasing by 13.5%, but the import value decreased by 2% due to a 13.7% drop in the import unit price. Import unit prices from other countries also fell by 3% in Jan 2024, with a corresponding 17.6% decrease in import volume and a 20.1% decrease in import value. However, US apparel imports from Vietnam increased by 0.5% in volume, with a modest decrease of only 4.7% in import value.
