Carbomer

Carbomer is a synthetic high–molecular weight polymer of acrylic acid, cross-linked with polyalkenyl ethers or divinyl glycol. It is one of the most common thickening, gelling, and stabilizing agents used in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and personal-care formulations.

 

It is usually supplied as a fluffy white powder that swells in water to form very clear gels.

 

✅ What Carbomer Is

 

Carbomer (often known as Carbopol® in industry) is:

 

A crosslinked polyacrylic acid polymer

 

Hydrophilic and capable of absorbing large amounts of water

 

A high-efficiency thickener at low dosages (0.1–1%)

 

Able to create crystal-clear gels

 

pH sensitive (gels thicken strongly when neutralized to pH 6–7)

 

Common grades: Carbomer 940, 941, 934, 980, 981, U20, U21, etc.
