Cotton: the weather data in Xinjiang by mid-Aug, 2023

In Aug, the influences of weather condition on Xinjiang cotton production are limited. Following is the weather condition in Xinjiang by mid-Aug.

In terms of the cotton crop growing progress, the progress changed little in Jul and Aug. The progress remained slow in Kuqa, Korla and Wusu, while the crop development progress in Korla recovered slightly, but still below the same period of last year. Progress in other regions changed little. The progress in Kashgar was earlier in Kashgar.

For the average temperature in Xinjiang, the condition was relatively steady in South Xinjiang, slightly higher than the same period of last year. The temperature in North Xinjiang declined fast in mid-Aug, which has been lower than the same period of previous years.

But looking at the daily highest temperature, the performance was slightly different from the average temperature. The temperature was at a normal level in South Xinjiang, while it was higher in North Xinjiang, showing that the daily temperature in North Xinjiang fluctuated largely this year.

For the average rainfall, it was obviously high in Aug in North Xinjiang.

For the average sunshine hours, South Xinjiang also saw little fluctuations, while North Xinjiang has seen obvious reduction from mid-Jul to mid-Aug.

 

In general, in terms of the weather condition from mid-Jul to mid-Aug, the weather changes more obviously in North Xinjiang, with daily high temperature at a high level, and the low temperature at a low level in mid-Aug. According to the survey, the cotton crop grows better in South Xinjiang this year, especially Kashgar, while crops in Wusu and Kuitun of North Xinjiang are affected by the high temperature from mid-Jul to mid-Aug.
