In terms of the temperature, the average temperature was obviously higher than the same period of last year in Xinjiang in early to mid-Apr, giving favorable condition for new cotton crop sowing. But in mid-Apr, the temperature in North Xinjiang started to be lower year on year. According to current weather forecast, snowy and rainy weather may appear in North Xinjiang, and temperature may lower by 3-5℃ in late Apr, which may be not good for the new cotton crop sowing.

In terms of the precipitation, the precipitation was at a low level in Xinjiang during the period, but irrigation method was implemented on new cotton crop planting in Xinjiang. In South Xinjiang, the drip irrigation under mulch technology has been widely popularized this year. About 10 million mu areas are planned to be covered using this technology in Xinjiang this year. This technology can save water for cotton irrigation, shorten the sowing time, prolong the growth period, and increase cotton yield.

Conclusion: according to China Cotton Association, by Apr 15, new cotton crop sowing progress was 72% in Xinjiang, 23.8 percentage point faster than the same period of last year. Currently, cotton crops in Marabishi County, Kashgar, Yarkant County and Turpan have been in seeding stage, and the planting progress was obviously faster than last year in most cotton growing areas. The temperature and sunshine hours were apparently better than last year in early to mid-Apr. Nevertheless, the temperature in North Xinjiang began to be lower year on year in mid-Apr, and sunshine hours in South Xinjiang also started to be lower. In late Apr, rainy and snowy weather may be seen in North Xinjiang, and temperature is likely to be lower. In addition, though the precipitation is lower than last year, the irrigation method is implemented on new cotton crop planting in Xinjiang. In 2022, the planting areas in Xinjiang are supposed to change little, with small growth.
