Vietnam's textile and apparel exports fall sharply in September
In Sep 2022, Vietnamese cotton imports decreased by 11.1% year-on-year but increased by 5.8% month-on-month. Vietnam's yarn imports moved up by 23.4% year-on-year but declined by 1.9% month-on-month, and its exports dropped by 20.0% year-on-year and 7% month-on-month. Vietnam's fabrics imports moved up by 14.2% year-on-year but down 6.2% month-on-month. Vietnam's textiles and apparel exports increased by 19.7% year-on-year but dropped by 31.9% month-on-month.
1. Vietnam's cotton import moved up month-on-month yet declined year-on-year in Sep
Vietnam's cotton imports in Sep reached 141,500 tons, down 11.1% over the same period last year yet up 5.8% from the previous month. Australia was the main source of Vietnam's cotton imports in Sep, with 75,749 tons of imports, accounting for 53.5% of the total imports. Imports from U.S. and Brazil reached 47,787 tons and 3,908 tons, accounting for 33.7% and 2.8% respectively.
2. Vietnam's yarn import moved up year-on-year while declined month-on-month in Sep
In Sep, Vietnam imported 74,800 tons of yarns, up 23.4% year-on-year but down 16.5% month-on-month. In terms of countries, the main origins of yarn imports in Sep were China, China Taiwan and Thailand. Of the total, 46,059 tons of yarns were from China, 10,193 tons were from China Taiwan, and 4,434 tons were from Thailand, accounting for 51.4%, 11.4% and 5% respectively.
3. Vietnam's yarn export moved down year-on-year and month-on-month in Sep
Vietnam's yarn exports in Sep reached 115,900 tons, down 20.0% over the same period last year and 7% from the previous month. By country, the exports to China, South Korea and the US were 54,262 tons, 10,260 tons, and 4,646 tons, accounting for 47%, 9% and 4% respectively.
4. Vietnam's yarn net exports decreased year-on-year yet went up month-on-month in Sep
Vietnam's yarn net exports reached 41,100 tons in Sep, down by 59.3% from the 84,300 tons the same period last year but up by 17.4% from the same period last month.
5. Vietnam's fabrics imports climbed up year-on-year but dropped month-on-month in Sep
Vietnam's fabrics imports in Sep were 1.130billion USD, up 14.2% over the same period last year but down 6.2% month-on-month. In terms of countries, its fabrics imports in Sep were mostly originated from China, China Taiwan, and South Korea, of which 670 million USD worth of fabrics were from China, 150 million USD worth of fabrics from China Taiwan and 120 million USD worth of fabrics from South Korea, accounting for 59.1%, 13.5% and 10.4% respectively.
6. Vietnam's textiles and apparel exports value rose both year-on-year and month-on-month in Sep
Vietnam's textiles and apparel exports in Sep reached 2.725 billion USD, up 19.7% year-on-year but down 31.9% month-on-month respectively. In terms of countries, Vietnam exported 980million USD worth of textiles and apparel to US, 380million USD to Japan, and 378million USD to South Korea, accounting for 36%, 14.1% and 14% respectively. Based on exports value, Vietnam’s textiles and apparel exports in Sep dropped significantly compared with that in Aug, yet were still higher than that of last year.
In Sep, Vietnam's textile and apparel exports declined significantly month-on-month and the exports value was well below the highest level of 2022, yet still showed positive growth from the same period of last year.
