Rayon yarn export of China in Q1 falls to 7-year low

According to customs data, rayon yarn export of China decreased by 36% year on year to 6.812kt in Mar 2024. Among them, the export of single yarn was 5.083kt, with a year-on-year decrease of 40%, and that of ply yarn was 1.728kt, with a year-on-year decline of 17%. The exports of rayon yarn in Q1 hit a 7-year low of 19.994kt, down 32% year on year.

In Mar, the export of rayon yarn to the five major countries (Brazil, Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, and Vietnam) was 5.533kt, with a year-on-year decrease of 41% but a month-on-month increase of 15%, accounting for 81% of the total volume. The export to India remained low.

The main origins of rayon yarn in Mar were Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Xinjiang, and Sichuan, with an export volume of 5.9584kt, a year-on-year decrease of 37% but a month-on-month growth of 12%, accounting for 87% of the total export volume.

Rayon yarn export in Mar continued to be sluggish, leading to a year-on-year decline of 32% in the first quarter. The export to India has not recovered yet, and that to Brazil has seen minor growth, but still much less than expected. If the depression sustains, the export of rayon yarn in 2024 will see a significant decline.
