Against the backdrop of volatile external environment this year, especially the escalating China-US trade frictions, China's refined cotton export market has been under downward pressure, with a significant "reshuffle" in exports of major regions. Among them, the export from Shandong and Xinjiang has dropped sharply, while that from Anhui, especially Jiangsu, has achieved counter-trend growth.

According to customs data, the export of refined cotton (including specialty cotton linter pulp) from China was 66.552kt in Jan-Sep of 2025, a year-on-year decrease of 15.66%. Among them, the export of Jiangsu was 6.647kt, a year-on-year increase of 49.41%, accounting for about 10% of China's total exports, exceeding the total export volume of 2024 in the first three quarters.

From Jan to Sep 2025, the average export price of refined cotton was $1,551.96/mt, a year-on-year decrease of 0.75%. Among them, the export price of Jiangsu was $1,505.87/mt, a year-on-year decrease of 5.5%, which was 2.97% lower than the national average export price and also significantly lower than the export prices of major regions in the same period.

Restricted by various adverse factors this year, China's refined cotton export market has been under downward pressure. The total export volume in the first three quarters dropped by nearly 15.7%. Meanwhile, the export volume of Anhui took the lead in the same period, that of Shandong ranked second, while the export market of Jiangsu greatly exceeded market expectations with a substantial year-on-year increase of 49.41% as the export volume in the first three quarters has surpassed the total volume of 2024, and the future market prospects remain promising.
