PTMEG exports double in Jan-Apr, 2021

Exports of PTMEG grew dramatically in China due to shrinking supply outside China. According to the data from China Customs, exports of PTMEG totaled 11.8kt in Jan-Apr, 2021, up by around 185% on annual basis. After PTMEG shifting into expansion cycle, price surged. Export value hiked by 488% on the year to US$49.2 million in Jan-Apr, 2021.

Exports under large orders increased and small lots to European and other Asian nations also apparently advanced. 

Exports of PTMEG to nations like Singapore and Thailand rose obviously. Singapore ranked top, with proportion at 24%. Exports of PTMEG to Brazil also surged, with market share near 24%, slightly lower Singapore. Exports of PTMEG to Turkey under large lots hiked due to tight supply, exceeding those to Thailand. 

As for export origins, Zhejiang and Jiangsu were major export origins in Jan-Apr, 2021 (the inner circle), with market share at 71%. Proportion of Sichuan dipped prominently, while some resources were delivered to Jiangsu for customs clearance. Exports from Zhejiang hiked by 102% on the year while the proportion of Zhejiang dipped to 45%, down by 19 percentage points on the year, as exports in Xinjiang, Chongqing and Jiangsu grew bigger.

Judging from the export origins, supply of Sichuan Tianhua, Hyosung Chemicla, Chongqing Jianfeng, Hangzhou Sanlong and Blue Ridge Tunhe all soared under large lots. 

New PTMEG capacity was very scarce outside China in recent years. There is no expansion and some old units were even eliminated, tightening PTMEG supply abroad. With improving quality of China-made PTMEG, exports of PTMEG are growing in China.
