Spandex exports extend higher in Jan-Apr, 2021

According to statistics from China Customs, exports of spandex totaled 32.7kt in Jan-Apr, 2021, up by 39.9% or 9,337mt, with monthly average volume at 8,184 tons and export unit price at $7.193/kg, up by $2.294/kg on the year. Exports of spandex totaled 8,719 tons in Jan, moved down to 6,507 tons in Feb, approached 8,084 tons in Mar and scored at 9,427 tons in Apr. Demand for spandex was hot from outside China in Jan-Apr, 2021, accounting for around 13% of total spandex production in Chinese mainland.

1. Spandex export by destination

Turkey remained the biggest export destination. Exports of spandex to Turkey, Brazil and Egypt accounted for around 40% of the total.

New spandex capacity was concentrated in Chinese mainland in recent years, accounting for around 70% of the world total. Exports of spandex gradually ascended in recent years with the transfer of some textile and apparel production capacity to Southeast Asia and the nations alongside the Belt and Road. Exports of spandex apparently grew in Jan-Apr, 2021 compared with the same period of 2019-2020, especially to Brazil and Columbia. 

2. Export price of spandex by destination

Export price of spandex remained apparently diversified in Jan-Apr but that of most varieties obviously rose on the year. Average export price rose by $2.294/kg compared with the same period of last year to $7.193/kg in Jan-Apr, 2021.

3. Export of spandex by origin

Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Chongqing, Henan and Shandong were major export suppliers of spandex in Jan-Apr, 2021, occupying 92% totally, down by 2.5% y-o-y.
