Cotton: the weather data in Xinjiang by mid-Sep, 2023

In early period of Sep, North Xinjiang experienced low temperature, and daily sunshine hours also dropped obviously, while the situation was relatively good in South Xinjiang. Following is the weather condition in Xinjiang by mid-Sep.

In terms of growing progress, the cotton crop growing accelerated apparently in Aksu this month, while the growing in Korla, which was damaged apparently in Apr-May was obviously slow. In Bole, Wusu and Changji of North Xinjiang, the growing progress was relatively slow compared with the same period of last year, especially Wusu.

For the average temperature in Xinjiang, the temperature was relatively steady in South Xinjiang, slightly higher than the same period of last year. The temperature in North Xinjiang was lower year on year in early Sep, but rebounded slightly in mid-Sep.

For the average rainfall, the situation was flat overall in South Xinjiang, while in North Xinjiang, the rainfall increased apparently in mid-Sep, not favorable for the cotton crop growing in late stage.

Viewed from the average sunshine hours, the situation changed little in South Xinjiang, while the hours reduced apparently in early to mid-Sep in North Xinjiang.

In general, the cotton crop growing progress and condition is relatively good overall in South Xinjiang, except that in Korla, which has suffered damage in Apr-May. In North Xinjiang, after experiencing the low temperature in Apr-May, hot weather in Jul-Aug, low temperature again in early Sep and increasing rainfall in mid-Sep, the cotton crops are affected. Keep an eye on the cotton production and quality in North Xinjiang. The cotton crops grow well in South Xinjiang, which may be offset part of quality cotton lost in North Xinjiang.
