Indonesia imposes safeguard measures on imported carpets, finalizing sunset review decision
On November 9, 2023, the WTO safeguards Committee issued a circular on safeguards submitted to it by the delegation of Indonesia. Indonesia made the first safeguard measure for carpets and other textile floor coverings, and proposed to continue to levy a safeguard tax on the products involved for a period of three years. The details are as follows: 74461 rupiah/square meter from February 17, 2024 to February 16, 2025, 71058 rupiah/square meter from February 17, 2025 to February 16, 2026, and 67811 rupiah/square meter from February 17, 2026 to February 16, 2027. This case involves 64 8-bit products under Indonesian tax number 57. The main source countries of the products involved include Vietnam, Turkey, Malaysia, Japan, China and Thailand.
Indonesia will hold case consultations before December 1, 2023, and stakeholders should submit applications for consultation in both electronic and paper versions within 7 days of the release of this announcement.
