In terms of total textile and apparel exports, Vietnam recorded USD 3.067 billion in April, up 18.1% year-on-year and 0.2% month-on-month. This figure sits at a relatively median level compared to monthly export values in previous years.

The top three export destinations for Vietnamese textile and apparel products in April remained the United States (45.2%), Japan (11.0%), and South Korea (6.7%), together accounting for 62.9% of total exports. Compared to March, the share to the U.S. increased by about 1%, while the share to South Korea fell by roughly 3%.

Compared with April 2024, the U.S., the Netherlands, Canada, the U.K., and Cambodia all saw their share of Vietnamese exports increase, while most other markets declined, notably South Korea, whose share fell by 1.61%.

Vietnam exported 161,900 tons of yarn in April 2025, marking the highest volume for the same month in the past three years, and placing it in the upper range of monthly export volumes historically.

The top three yarn export destinations in April were China (49.7%), the U.S. (10.5%), and South Korea (7.9%). Compared to April 2024, China and the U.S. saw their shares fall by 0.8% and 2.2%, respectively, while shares to Taiwan (China) and Bangladesh grew notably by 1.1% and 0.6%, reaching 3.9% and 3.3%.

As for cotton imports, Vietnam brought in 170,000 tons in April, up 28.0% year-on-year-the second-highest monthly volume since 2022, just slightly below the February 2025 volume of 173,000 tons, reflecting strong import momentum.

In summary, Vietnam's textile and apparel trade in April 2025 showed solid performance, with cotton imports continuing at high levels. If the current trend continues, Vietnam's cotton imports could hit a new annual high in 2025. However, it's worth noting that the U.S. plays a dominant role in both Vietnam's export market and cotton import supply. This heavy reliance on the U.S. poses a risk: U.S. tariff increases on Vietnamese goods could deal a significant blow to Vietnam's textile and apparel sector.
