China's polyester filament exports rise YOY and MOM in April

The export of PFY was 331,200 tons in March, up 24.41% month-on-month and down 0.01% compared with March last year. The export of PFY was 349,800 tons in April, up 5.59% month-on-month and up 9.08% year-on-year.

The cumulative export of PFY amounted to 1.3405 million tons from January to April, up 6.99% compared with the same period of last year. In terms of net export of PFY, the net export in March was 326,200 tons, up 24.52% month-on-month and up 0.53% year-on-year. The net export was 345,100 tons in April, up 5.78% over last month and up 9.67% on annual basis. The cumulative net export from January to April was 1.3229 million tons, up 7.60% on annual basis.

After the export volume of PFY declined in February due to the Spring Festival holiday, there was a relatively large rebound in March and April. The export volumes of POY, FDY and DTY were 44,600 tons, 54,600 tons and 172,200 tons respectively in March. The export volumes of POY, FDY and DTY were 56,100 tons, 58,300 tons and 176,200 tons respectively in April. The export volumes of FDY and DTY rebounded significantly in March compared with those in February, increasing by 15,000 tons and 39,000 tons respectively. In April, the growth was relatively stable and small. The export volume of FDY has reached a recent high. The export volume of POY in March further declined by 2,500 tons, while in April it rebounded significantly by 11,400 tons. From January to April 2025, the cumulative export of POY was 209,500 tons, down 13.46% year-on-year. The cumulative exports of FDY and DTY from January to April were 208,200 tons and 691,600 tons respectively, up 11.99% and 17.73% on the year respectively.

From the perspective of major export countries, the month-on-month growth of exports in April was the largest in Indonesia, reaching 68.68%. India, South Korea, Egypt and Vietnam also had a month-on-month growth of more than 9%. The month-on-month decline in Bangladesh was the largest, reaching -22.35%, and the decline in the other countries was between 5% and 10%. It was worth noting that India's year-on-year growth was very rapid, reaching 296.54%, and its cumulative year-on-year growth from January to April was also 70.42%.

In general, the export of PFY in April was better than that in the same period of the previous three years, with a year-on-year growth of 9.08%, and the cumulative year-on-year growth from January to April was 6.99%. Due to the 90-day suspension of the implementation of Trump's equivalent tariffs on other countries, Southeast Asia, as the transit place for China's textile industry, the rush export of Chinese raw materials to Southeast Asia gradually emerged. Coupled with the relatively low price of PFY in April, the PFY export was good in April. In May, the Sino-US tariff issue was temporarily suspended, and the export is expected to continue the uptrend.
