Chinese textile delegation strengthens trade ties with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh

A Chinese textile industry delegation, led by Zhang Xian, Vice Chairman of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textiles (CCCT), visited Sri Lanka and Bangladesh from May 28 to June 4 to deepen trade and investment cooperation in the textile and apparel sectors.

The delegation, comprising over 30 representatives from leading Chinese textile and garment enterprises, participated in the "China–Sri Lanka Trade and Investment Conference" in Colombo and the "China–Bangladesh Trade and Investment Conference" in Dhaka. Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao delivered keynote speeches at both events, emphasizing industrial collaboration, green transformation, and digital economy development.

During the visit, the CCCT organized eight textile-focused matchmaking and dialogue sessions with local associations and institutions, including Sri Lanka's Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF), Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), and North South University.

The delegation conducted in-depth field visits to major textile and apparel enterprises such as TIMEX and Isabella in Sri Lanka, and the Lidex Group, SQ Group, and Urmi Group in Bangladesh, gaining insight into local production capacity, supply chain integration, and investment environments.

Multiple cooperation intentions were reached during the exchanges, setting the stage for long-term partnerships and capacity-building initiatives. The mission was supported by the Ministry of Commerce of China and embassies in both countries, marking a successful step toward deeper China–South Asia textile collaboration.
