Brazil outshines other origins in China's cotton linter import market in Jun

While the import volume of cotton linter from the United States and India has dropped significantly this year, imports from Turkey and Brazil have surged sharply. Particularly in Jun, the import of cotton linter from Brazil outshone others.

According to customs data, cotton linter import of China in Jun this year was 6,407.34 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 6.33% and a year-on-year decrease of 13.94%. Among them, the import from Brazil was about 4,135.2 tons, a year-on-year surge of 1,989.4%, accounting for 64.5% of the total imports.

The import volume of cotton linter from Brazil has shown an upward trend in recent years. In the first half of this year, the import was 13,423.05 tons, a year-on-year increase of 54.8%, accounting for about 24.1% of the total imports. Although affected by the overall environment in recent years, the volume has decreased compared with the peak in 2021, the fluctuation range is significantly smaller than that of India, Turkey and the United States.

The average import price of cotton linter in Jun was $462.29/mt, a month-on-month increase of 0.27% and a year-on-year increase of 9.72%. Among them, the average import price from Brazil was $422.47/mt, a year-on-year decrease of 15.8%, which was 8.6% lower than the national average import price.

In the first half of the year, the average import price of cotton linter was $445.42/mt, a year-on-year increase of 13.2%. Among them, the average import price from Brazil was $422.25/mt, a year-on-year decrease of 8.4%, which was 5.2% lower than the national average import price.

To sum up, due to the advantage in cost performance and the low base in the same period last year, the import of cotton linter from Brazil increased sharply in Jun this year, with a year-on-year growth of more than 19 times. In the first half of the year, the import from Brazil increased by nearly 55% year-on-year, ranking second only to Turkey. The import price in Jun alone and from Jan to Jun were both lower than the national average price and the import prices from major origins.
