China's spandex exports grow by 20% YOY in H1 2025

According to the latest data from China customs, under Hs code 54024410, exports of spandex amounted to 42.7kt in January-June, 2025, up by 15.4% or 5713 tons year on year. The export unit price was at $4.047/kg in January-June, down by $0.685/kg on annual basis. In January-June, the export volume of spandex from Chinese mainland was at a second median level over the past five years, with a significant year-on-year increase of around 20%. The spandex exports stayed at 6871 tons in June 2025, down 7.1% on the month and up 1.5% on the year respectively, and the export unit price approached US$4.038/kg, up by $0.159/kg over last month.

Spandex export destination

In January-June, 2025, spandex were exported to 111 nations, up by 10 year on year. Turkey, Vietnam, Egypt and India were the top four export markets, and these four nations accounted for above 40% of the total exports.

Change of spandex export to India, US, Israel and Iran in Chinese mainland

The export of spandex from the Chinese mainland to India was between 1,641 tons and 5,073 tons from 2019 to 2024. In the first half of 2025, the export volume of spandex to India increased by 32.2% to 2,866 tons, with the export share rising to 6.7%, showing a marginally increasing trend in export share. Earlier, on March 28, 2025, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India issued an announcement stating that, in response to an application filed by Indian domestic enterprise Indorama India Private Limited, it had initiated an anti-dumping investigation into elastomeric filament yarns originating from or imported from China and Vietnam. This case involves products under Indian Customs Codes 54024400 and 54041100.

The Sino-US trade war has escalated this year. From January to June this year, the export volume of spandex to the United States was 1293 tons, a year-on-year increase of 90% compared with the same period of last year. The export share to the United States has risen to a multi-year high of 3.0%. Since September 2024, the export volume has remained at a relatively high level for many consecutive months.

Over the years, the export of spandex to Iran has accounted for approximately 1.7% to 6.7% of China's total spandex exports. In the first half of 2025, the export of spandex to Iran was 401 tons, accounting for only 1.0% of the Chinese mainland's total spandex exports, which was at a relatively low level in many years. However, the export of spandex to Israel has always been extremely low; in the first half of this year, it increased to 49 tons, with its share showing an upward trend.

Export origins

In January-June, 2025, the exports of from Zhejiang, Chongqing, Fujian and Shandong showed significant growth, which increased by 20%, 42%, 23%, and 18.7%, respectively. However, exports from Guangdong, Jiangsu and Ningxia declined by nearly 10-40% year-on-year.
